DRA1N was produced by Steve Albini on 7.25.93 in his original home studio in Chicago, IL, Chicago Recording Company. This final recording captured our evolution as a band with Jon Berger taking over on bass. This was EARSHOT's last studio session, during darker days in the Googleplex, after losing bass player Erik Carter, starting to lose a long series of friends in the Cape Cod scene who died too young, with band members making plans to move away, go to college, call it quits...

With Albini we added three new songs and re-recorded a few favorites with revised lineup. This recording session was unreleased until now.

In Steve Albini's three story house, with control booth in the attic and our two drum sets in the flooded basement, we saw horrid sights like the Budd VHS and the original pack mule. We accidentally ate a present of candy given to Steve that we thought was studio hospitality. Glazed Baby visited while we were tracking as they were recording there the following day...Steve made us spend every cent we had on new drum heads for two kits, new strings...We planned poorly, ran out of money, ran out of gas, and survived by eating condiments from a local deli. This is poverty rock, made of sheer desperation and willpower.

The arrangement "Lil' Firebug" was written so we could play the song without using half of our live set time at shows. Additional recording and remix on Drain by Tom Hamilton at Newbury Sound (Synchro Sound) Studio, Boston. "Toboggan" and "Crib" were written with Erik Carter on bass, but recorded by Jon Berger after Erik moved to Oakland and began working with Idiot Flesh...

Post-rock, noise rock, post-hardcore, prog, performance art and some heavy metal. EARSHOT played weekly shows all over New England, Boston, Providence, Western MA, and toured down the East coast and twice through the midwest. EARSHOT played with Unsane, Shiv, Holy Cow, Glazed Baby, Iowa Beef Experience, Alice Donut, Crash Worship, Chumbawumba, Piewagon, Ed Hall, Dagobah, Cher UK, King Missle, Seven League Boots, Apunkalypse Now, Milkworm, The Freeze and others. We used our live shows at rental halls and our Googleplex rehearsal space to bring touring bands to the small but passionate Cape Cod hardcore punk scene including Green Day's first tour and Green Magnet School from Boston.
