ELECTRO. ACOUSTIC. RESONANT. SIGNAL.

THE SONGS THAT STARTED IT ALL!...Complete collection for the first time of the earliest recordings. The psychedelic noise goth prog punk math rock years...demos, experiments and alternate versions. This is the unreleased first album recorded by Chris Blood for his Sonic Trout label plus bonus earlier 4-tracks and a WKKL radio takeover. Remastered in March 2022.

NOISE Boston review 1991: "Earshot looks at the world through morose-colored glasses..."

Fuck them! We were right!
E.A.R.S.H.O.T. was first-generation post-hardcore..."Kaos Control" is our antidisestablishmentarianist manifesto! Chi is fully channelling Jello in this anti-war anthem written by Erik Carter. "Why Hide?" is emo zen proto-grunge written by David on acoustic guitar in 1988... "Absolute Zero" is the temperature at which atoms stop moving and an instrumental with echoing harmonica by Brett McNutt. "Damaged in Transit" is a Jon Berger song that dates back to the mid-80s. "No Use" is a glum number in 7/8. "The Munsters theme" was the first song ever recorded at band practice by the newly-formed EARSHOT. These are early arrangements of the songs that became the live Earshot set over a couple of years of evolution.

Band members Chi (vocals) and David (drums) played together in Cape Cod skatecore band Crash Course. David and Jon (guitar) played together in Obscure and House of Whipcord, which became Sleestak (adding Erik from Tripp Lullaby). Soon after guitar wizard Craig was found, Wally was recruited and EARSHOT morphed into a prog punk behemoth. Brett McNutt played harmonica at times in 1990 and 91, and joined the band playing live tape loops and electronics 1992 - 94, as well as in the final 1999 show: VIDEO youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtiaZpYZLPOQxyCDe2RJrRc69c7nKhpDm

Songs recorded 1991 by Chris Blood except where noted, for an unreleased album on his label SONIC TROUT. Mastered by Ken Perry (?) of Rhino Records fame, right when the label was joining with Capitol. Fledgling EARSHOT was unable to take advantage of any opportunities, or release any music, hobbling with borrowed gear and broken cymbals from one show to the next as the band got their act together. This is the first ever release of this music aside from a handful of home-dubbed cassettes.
Scott CHI Smith - vocals
David Silver - drums
Jon Berger - guitar
Erik Carter - bass
Craig Adams - guitar
Wally Blanchard - samples (2nd drums on More Air, Prime, Firebug)
